I had the wonderful opportunity to teach my first graders about American Thanksgiving. This activity is the basis of my final project for the LA program. We used tempera paint to make hand turkeys just like the ones above. I told them briefly about how we celebrate the holiday and explained to them what thankfulness, with the help of the main classroom teacher's Spanish translations for them. We then went around the classroom and they all said something for which they were thankful. It was a truly beautiful experience!
I also played this "Turkey Hokey Pokey" song for them at the end of the class and had them do the dance which they absolutely loved!
